Home.

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to hang out with my fellow Young Life leaders from the River Region at our yearly leader weekend. The only part about this weekend that I do not absolutely love is the fact that the retreat is a three-hour drive from my house. I know to most people this isn’t a big deal, but to me (someone who doesn’t love to travel) it felt inconvenient.

I’m not sure why I don’t enjoy traveling that much because most people do. I do share something in common with most people though. I absolutely love the feeling of finally arriving at home and getting back into a place where I feel comfortable.

My bed. My dog. My coffee. Finally, life feels good!

I think we can all think of a time when we were just excited to finally be home.

This solace is the feeling we get when we finally arrive at God as the ultimate, and only, fix for our lives. Click To Tweet

While we all have our own stories, they all have the same elements. Feelings of being lost, knowing there is something more, desiring love, and needing a purpose are thoughts that we all have at some point in our lives. We have all been wanderers for a season of our life, desperately searching for home.

The reality of this wandering is that our “home” will only be found in God because He is the source of all life! In Genesis 2:7 we read that God created man from the dust of the Earth. But man wasn’t complete yet. Although he was a physical being he lacked life. But then something amazing happened.

God. Breathed. Life.

It was only through God’s breath did man finally acquire a soul, a purpose, and a capacity to feel God’s love! So, despite his physical existence, without the breath of God, man would have been lifeless. This same sentiment applies to us as well. Without the breath of God we will forever lack the ability to truly experience life.

When we finally realize our need for Him and our hearts return to Him we will be overwhelmed by a feeling that we know so well… finally, we are home.
